Stepbrothers Ryland Engelhart and Cary Mosier have the “glass half-full” philosophy nailed (…to the wall. Literally.)
The family behind the Cafe Gratitude empire has been at it since 2004, when Ryland’s dad and Cary’s mom, Matthew and Terces Engelhart, opened up their first location in San Francisco — a fresh vegan restaurant founded on the idea of practicing gratitude in our daily lives.

Café Gratitude — a beautiful, bright spot with a large outdoor patio in Larchmont — serves totally vegan food that is as impeccably and locally sourced as any self-respecting restaurant can offer. Everything is organic, and comes in fantastically large portions that can be shared. We’ve never tried anything that wasn’t creative, healthy and filling — and the slightly chewy, flavorful flax chips that you can order as a side dish will become an obsession.

Café Gratitude (Larchmont) – Organic live onion sesame bagel with cashew cream cheese, nori “lox”, tomato, onion, capers and sprouts. This is not your typical vegan restaurant that you probably associate tons of alfalfa sprouts, tempeh, seitan, and other soy “protein” substitutes with. It’s all organic and more about delicious nut cheese, seasonal veggies & fruit, kelp noodles, quinoa, brown rice, with dishes like the zucchini lasagna and my absolute favorite, the polenta cakes with sautéed spinach, mushrooms and basil chiffonade topped with cashew nut cheese.

Cafe Gratitude – I think of Cafe Gratitude as One Lucky Duck‘s prettier, brighter LA counterpart.

With a list of menu items such as “I Am Fabulous” (raw lasagna with cashew ricotta) and “I Am Awesome” (eggplant parmesan on grilled panini bread), just placing an order here can make a person feel good.
